The Head Lama of Ganden Tegchilen Monastery
Venerable D. Choijamts,
Head Lama of the Mongolian Buddhist Religous Center
The Sain Nomun Monastery was one of the monasteries that carried out major religous activities and was established as a result of the rebirth of Buddhism during the late 1980's as the winds of democratic reform took hold in Mongolia. At this time many temples monasteries and religious schools were re-established in the countryside and towns where many Lamas gathered to practise thier new found religous freedoms.
I was one of those who started activities at this monastery. At that time there were only a few older Lamas who we could lean on to retrieve our traditional religious knowledge and then begin anew our traditional religious activities.
Looking back over that time it overwhelms me that is has already been 20 years since that time.
The Sain Nomun Monastery of Nalaikh District is providing a good example to monasteries located in the countryside because this monastery is a modern styled monastery that they can follow in their development.
There is an additional benefit of this monastery. It has solved many problems of religious education. It is very commendable that they have built a new secondary religious school providing a double education and providing better management and leadership.
Education is one of the key issues facing every country. It is difficult to develop a country without education, so this monastery is working with many organizations that are undertaking activities for the welfare of humanity. Each year we educate our young students in preparation for a university education and cooperate with the Goman Religious School of India. As a result one hundred students are now studying at that religious school. We have invited many teachers who are Geshe Lamas and who took their degree from the religious school. They are now teaching our students, conducting various religious ceremonies, and teaching traditional customs and morals to the next generation.
Prayers, Blessings and many thanks go out to all who have helped in building and creating the new Buddhist Religous Center in the Nalaikh District.
May you all be peaceful and trainquil!
